Vicky McCann wasn’t sure whether or not she wanted to compete again. After all, the veteran bodybuilder and powerlifter had been competing at an elite level for more than 20 years – as a professional since 1995. “I didn’t think after my last competition I would ever get back on stage,” she explained. “I thought I had had enough dieting, and prepping for a show is tough physically and mentally and, although I actually revel in that challenge prepping for an event that was more of a cattle market than a celebration of natural bodybuilding and a showcase of natural athletes and there achievements. I thought at that point I had more to offer the sport in my promotion of both the BNBF at home and DFAC Worldwide so started to focus on that.”
But the lure of competition was too strong to resist. “I never let up with training or my overall attitude to my personal development as a bodybuilder. In fact, I was training as well if not better than ever. At the start of 2013, and the time when my training partner David Kaye was starting to focus on planning his year and his prep for the DFAC World Finals, I decided that it would be easier and more fun if we both competed in 2013 and, so, the decision was made.”
That momentous decision led to her winning the DFAC World Championship in November. Now Vicky has been recognized by readers of National Natural Bodybuilding warptown.com as the greatest female natural bodybuilder of 2013. Congratulations, Vicky!
Runner-up Patricia (Beckman) Payne needs no introduction to readers or anyone else in natural bodybuilding. She may have been short of poll votes this year, but she has won an unprecedented 8 world titles and is still undefeated in competition. How long the “Queen” will be able to continue her incredible winning streak until someone dethrones her is anyone’s guess.
2012 WNBF World Champion and 2013 WNBF Pro European Cup Champion Helen Stack finished third in her first appearance in this poll. She showed strong voter support against a great field of current and former champions and should be a contender for the top spot for years to come.
In fourth place is the great Katy Wayman-White who has been winning bodybuilding contests for more than 30 years and is a testimonial for natural bodybuilding at the highest level. At 51, the WNBF/IFPA pro is still a threat to win every time she steps on stage. The two-time World Champion boasts a list of titles a mile long and has consistently been among the top vote-getters in this poll every year.
This was Jill Kolivoski’s first time in the poll, but the 2004 PNBA Natural Olympia champion has a fervent fan base, placing her fifth in her inaugural appearance. She has been featured in Flex, Muscle & Fitness, Muscle Magazine and Iron Man Magazine over the years and still owns the stage almost a decade from her Olympia victory.
The top five poll winners for 2013:
1. Vicky McCann
2. Patricia Payne
3. Helen Stack
4. Katy Wayman-White
5. Jill Kolivoski
Other great champions receiving votes this year represent a virtual “who’s who” of natural bodybuilding:
Nancy Andrews, Brenda Rahe, Cathy Vail, Nadine Schmidt, and Staci Longo.
Previous poll champions have included natural bodybuilding greats Liza “Herculiza” Reichenberger, Toni West, and Patricia Payne.
