Veteran’s Day is officially Monday, November 11 and since it falls on a Monday this year it is the observation day as well. Veterans Day is a day to honor and thank all military personnel who served the United States in all wars. In some communities it is marked by parades and church services and traditionally the American flag is hung at half mast and a period of silence is held at 11am. It was on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 that an armistice between Germany and the Allied nations went into effect. On November 11, 1919, Armistice Day was first celebrated. It was in 1954 that Congress changed Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all American veterans, where ever and whenever they had served.
