Life is messy business, and that’s just fine with humor columnist Joanne Brokaw.
For almost a decade, she’s been musing on life’s ups, downs and in-betweens, taking readers on a journey filled with laughter, dog hair and even a few tears. From her heartwrenching chance encounter with a soldier in an airport to her confession as an office supply addict, from parenting advice to holiday observations penned by Bandit, her blogging Border Collie, Brokaw has compiled fan favorites into a single volume entitled, What the Dog Said, which released today from WordCrafts Press. Joanne invites both old friends and new readers to join her as she explores the mundane (but often hilarious) mishaps and adventures of everyday life.
The book has already garnered kudos from industry pros. Kelsey Timmerman, author of the books Where Am I Wearing and Where Am I Eating, said, “Life is funny and packed with poignant life lessons. So is Joanne Brokaw’s _What the Dog Said_…Tickle that funny bone; pluck those heart strings; read this book!”
Yvonne DiVita, founder of the BlogPaws Online Pet Community, said, “Joanne has shared the best parts of her writing, told from the heart, offered without shame. Man, woman, or child, if you’re human, this book is for you.”
Brokaw, who describes herself as “a disorganized, addle-brained, Jesus-loving, dog training, tea-addicted, award-winning freelance writer, blogger and columnist who is also a terrible housekeeper and equally bad cook,” spent the majority of her professional writing career covering entertainment and freelancing for dozens of newspapers, magazines and websites in the U.S. and Canada. Her extensive writing resume includes credits from American Greetings, Beliefnet.com, ChristianVoice Magazine and Focus on the Family publications. She is the recipient of two Evangelical Press Association awards.
A year volunteering at a local animal shelter compelled Brokaw to refocus her creative energies to satisfy her insatiable curiosity about dog behavior while helping people better understand how to care for and communicate with their pets. She has since written for several animal-centric publications, including the Fido Friendly blog and Pup Culture Magazine. She also oversees her dog Bandit’s blog, where he “does dog stuff and then writes about it.”
Joanne lives with two dogs, a cat, some chickens and one very patient husband. You can read more about life at The Funny Farm on her personal blog, NotesFromTheFunnyFarm.com.
