Warning: If you do not want to know “The Walking Dead” season 4, episode 8 spoilers and fan speculation, then stop reading.
The title of “The Walking Dead” mid-season finale is “Too Far Gone” and there are definitely going to be some characters that will die. The tagline for one of the promo videos reads,
“All will fight… some will fall.”
Based on a promo photograph for “Too Far Gone,” the Governor has captured Michonne and Hershel and brings them to the prison along with his “army” and a tank. They have their hands tied behind their backs. This makes sense since he did see the pair when he was spying on the prison. He still has a lot of hate for Michonne and it is suspected that Hershel was an easy target.
Michonne still has a story to tell and there is still so much that is unknown about her. She will most likely survive, but Hershel probably won’t. He was also killed in the prison assault in the comics.
In the comics it is Tyreese is the one who is captured and when Rick refuses to let the Governor into the prison, he beheads Tyreese. But since he is still a pretty new character, it wouldn’t have been fair to kill him off this soon.
Meghan, Tara and Lilly are also in question. If they turn on the Governor or question his motives in any way, he can get rid of them. But he views Meghan like she is his own, almost as a replacement for his deceased little girl, Penny. If he gets rid of Tara and Lilly, chances are he will tell Meghan some story about how Rick and the prison killed them and then promise to take care of her always.
However, in the comics the Governor is killed by Lilly because she blames him for making her kill baby Judith. Lori is not alive on the television series, but it is Beth who takes care of the baby most of the time. Some fans are speculating that she runs with the baby trying to get to safety and both are killed while doing so. Andrew Lincoln has talked about a painful scene for Rick in “The Walking Dead” mid-season finale and losing his baby daughter would certainly be painful. But if his youngest child, an innocent baby were to die, there would be far more descriptive and emotional words that could be used.
It was revealed before season 4 even aired that Beth would have more screen time and so far she hasn’t, so chances are she will survive the attack.
Many of the actors have current projects they are working on including Scott Wilson, Lauren Cohan, Steven Yeun and Melissa McBride, who play Hershel, Maggie, Glenn and Carol respectively. With other projects in the works, it is possible that they won’t survive with the exception of Carol. TV Line previously reported that fans have not seen the last of her, so the likelihood of her returning is pretty strong.
The Governor has already attacked Rick and the group twice. There could always be a third attack, but an anonymous fan recently said that in the comic books there is an enemy that is far worse than the Governor ever was. If the show followed the comic books story line, then a far worse enemy would keep the show exciting while at the same time giving viewers a new character to figure out.
As for who could possibly survive the prison attack in “Too Far Gone,” this Examiner is speculating that Rick, Daryl, Tyreese, Michonne, Beth, Carl and baby Judith will live through it.
