Thanksgiving is almost upon us. If you are not cooking or going to someone’s house, here are a few special places to enjoy the feast.
For the bargain of the day, try La Tomate’s (1701 Connecticut Ave.NW, 202-667-5505 )special three-course dinner, served from 4 to 10 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day, The three-course meal is priced at $25 — a real bargain. And if you don’t like turkey or pumpkin pie, there are always other choices, including tiramisu for dessert. Can’t beat this offer.
Et Voila! (5120 MacArthur Blvd. NW, 202-237-2300), the little restaurant in the Palisades section of town that specializes in mussels, will host a “Stretch Your Belly” party in anticipation of Thanksgiving. This special offering will be available during the dinner service from 5 to 10 p.m. on Wednesday, November 27th. For $29.95, diners can enjoy unlimited amounts of Blue Bay mussels, Belgian fries and Blanche de Bruxelles Belgian white beer. You can enjoy such dishes as mussels with garlic white wine sauce; mussels with coconut milk, curry, shallots and lemon grass; mussels with tomatoes and lobster bisque; and mussels with tomatoes, shallots, garlic and saffron.
Tony & Joe’s (3000 K St.NW, 202-944-4545) down on the waterfront, will be offering their Thanksgiving buffet for $45 for adults and $25 for children under 10 years of age.
Over in Alexandria, Bastille (1201 N, Royal St., 703-519-3776) will prepare a Thanksgiving feast with French under and over tones for $65 per person, $95 with wine pairings. On the menu are a terrine of foie-gras, oyster fritters, and a pumpkin roulade, as well as more traditional dishes, such as turkey and sweet potatoes.
For post Thanksgiving, Spanish style, Jose Andres is preparing some special dishes at the three Jaleo restaurants. From November 29th to December 1st (only until the 30th at the Crystal City location which is closed that Sunday) the menu will offer turkey salad with raisins, nuts and cheese; turkey and blood sausage fitters with cranberry aioli; turkey and spinach canelones; and turkey broth with pasta and turkey meatballs.
And don’t forget the Fairmont Hotel’s (2401 M St.NW) annual tree lighting ceremony, which will take place on December 3rd from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The event benefits the United States Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots program, and, although the event is free, guests are requested to bring an unwrapped toy for the program. Family photos, holiday card decorating, complimentary hot chocolate and cookies, entertainment by the Georgetown Visitation Madrigals and presentation of the colors by the U.S. Marine Corps Color Guard are all part of the fun.
