Who wouldn’t want a book deal with Harlequin? My guest today is Gwen Knight, author of the paranormal romance, A Hunter’s Passion.
Gwen first began to delve into the realm of the paranormal at the age of ten, when she wrote her first horror starring a clawed monster that hid beneath her bed. Since then, her tastes have expanded into many genres. Though addicted to reading and writing, she managed to achieve a degree in archaeology, geography, and mapping. Currently, she lives in the Great White North with her husband, two collies, and black cat. She loves meeting new people and you can visit her website at www.gwenknight.ca, facebook page https://www.facebook.com/GwenKnightx, or twitter https://twitter.com/GwenKnightx.
Thank you for this interview, Gwen. Can you tell us a little about yourself and how long you’ve been writing?
I’m a northern Canadian girl currently living in Fort St. John, British Columbia with my husband, two collies, and cat. I graduated from the University of Lethbridge with a degree in Archaeology and Geography. My interests include playing in the dirt (summer), building elaborate snow forts (winter), boating, and archery. I’ve been writing nonstop since grade 6.
Can you tell us briefly what your book is about?
Ryker Bennett has dedicated his life to hunting down—and eliminating—creatures of the dark. But his latest assignment has him questioning everything he’s ever believed in. Jenna Sinclair may be a witch, but she’s also the only woman Ryker has ever loved.
Jenna thought leaving Ryker two years ago would save him from having to choose between their forbidden love and his sworn duty. But when he tracks her down, it’s clear the desire between them burns as hot as ever—and that they’ll have to walk through the flames to be together….
Why did you choose your particular genre?
I started reading Anne Rice when I was in junior high and fell in love with vampires. After that, everything about the paranormal intrigued me. It’s a rich world where anything is possible.
What was your greatest challenge writing this book?
Getting everything that I wanted into the required length.
Are you published by a traditional house, small press or are you self-published?
I am published by Harlequin.
Was it the right choice for you?
I definitely think it was. They are fantastic to work with and have some great people working for them.
How are you promoting your book thus far?
I have a virtual tour lined up, some release day parties, some events, blog posts, and some contests and games.
How is that going for you?
So far, it’s been great! Quite the experience.
Can you tell us one thing you have done that actually resulted in one or more sales?
Interacting with the readers seems to help the most. Simply tweeting about your book doesn’t cut it. It’s gotten to the point where people gloss over the advertising. But actually speaking with them and getting to know them results in an increased fan base.
Do you have another job besides writing?
I do. I work an eight to five job as a mapping technician.
If you could give one book promotion tip to new authors, what would that be?
Being that I am a new author, the advice I would have liked is don’t be afraid to experiment with different sorts of marketing. What worked for one person might not work for you and there’s nothing wrong with that.
What’s next for you?
I currently have a few projects on the go. But primarily, I would like to continue on with the series, write about Ryker’s brothers.
