While it may be cold and snowy in some parts of the country, other parts still have an opportunity to squeeze a little bit more out of the growing season. For those gardeners who want to make the most of it, there is a new app called Sprout it, and it’s designed to help and inspire all gardeners to grow their own herbs and vegetables.
Backed by Miracle-Gro®, this web-based application is inspiring the gardener in everyone to grow more edible plants. Taking into account available space, local weather conditions, lifestyle and difficulty, Sprout it will provide a customized gardening plan. Gardeners will love the notifications, reminders and encouragement while the program helps them to plant, nurture and then harvest those delicious vegetables and herbs. Below are some great gardening tips from Sprout it.
- Out with the old and in with the new: Gardening requires maintenance and upkeep. When crops are done for the season, it’s time to make room for new items. Not only does it keep the garden fresh, but it keeps pests out and gives the food lover in you other edibles to try.
- Take care of the soil: Plants rely on nutrients in the soil to help them grow. Over the course of a growing season, the soil gets depleted of these vital enrichments. Turn the soil over using a garden rake, add compost and mix well. The next crop will give thanks in the form of beautiful and healthy veggies and herbs.
- Don’t worry about being a novice, be inspired: Most gardeners had to start somewhere. So if one is not sure what to plant, just keep in mind that some plants like greens can be harvested before they reach their fully mature stage (greens are tender and sweet at the baby stage). Don’t feel like starting a garden right now, that’s okay. Sprout it, and this examiner both know that creating a new garden is a little bit intimidating. But the app, also available for iPad as well as in a web-based format, is totally prepared to provide whatever inspiration needed along with know-how via great tips and resources from Miracle-Gro®.
