There is a war at this very second being waged against the “Conscious Soul of America”. It is not a war of beans and bullets nor is it a war of bombs and infantrymen. Rather, it is a psychological war being fought deep within our pituitary gland, our spinal cord and throughout other parts of our brain and nervous system.
Like the fictional Dr. Frankenstein who discovered through trial and error the secrets of life-charging neutrons, the wizards of Madison Avenue have through evil intent, discovered the secrets of life-changing Endorphins.
Simply explained, endorphins are hormones that produce feelings of pleasure within our mind and within our body. Sadly, we Americans are being systematically and sadistically drawn into an endorphin saturated realm where the barons of Wall Street and the wizards of Madison Avenue have gleefully united in a devious plot to make American consumers feel temporarily good about being broke and further indebted as we play on our new electronic gadgets that by-the-way will be outdated and semi-discarded by Spring of next year.
What’s even worse is that we’re forgetting as a nation the true meaning of many important American holidays that has generationally encouraged us all to be more humble and thankful for what we already have in life.
Was it really that long ago when families and friends across the United States happily converged together on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day at a favorite home that was assuredly warm from a well-used oven, scented candles and abundant brotherly / sisterly love?
In 1950 the expression “McCarthyism” was coined after Republican Joseph McCarthy who [like today’s Tea Party leaders] used lies, unsubstantiated accusations, and an insatiable News media to gin up a continuous cycle of fear and trepidation of imaginary “Communists” throughout America.
McCarthyism strongly implied that an unknown number of subversive Reds / Communists were covertly on a mission to topple American traditions, our freedoms, apple pie, our mothers and of course Chevy trucks.
In truth, Communism has never been the threat to ending American traditions and freedoms that Corporate greed has now evolved into being. Greed is mother’s milk to a corrupted Capitalist who commands billions of dollars in business revenue.
Corporate greed has tapped into our mind and has released via well-produced commercials, a “gazillion” endorphins that make us all feel warm and fuzzy about spending money on meaningless gifts that for the most part, we can’t afford.
Over the last 30 years American Corporate greed has meticulously created a nation of “credit card worshiping sheep” who would rather feel the rush of endogenous opioid peptides flowing through their brain [Associating a misguided sense of human pleasure with that of being one of the first shoppers that enters JC Penny at 5 pm on Thanksgiving Day] then laughing and joking with family and friends at the dinner table.
At the current pace we’re at, we are only a couple of generations away from believing that Thanksgiving Day is all about getting up extra early, standing in line and saving money while shopping for a big screen television, video game and refrigerator.
No Senator McCarthy and friends, it’s not Communism that’s destroying America, it’s a feudalistic society that was created by a small but powerful group of greedy, non-empathetic Capitalists.
And for the record it’s a good bet that anyone who adds a car elevator to the blueprints of their new home is more than likely a greedy, non-empathetic Capitalist. While on that note, a “Happy Holiday” greeting goes out to Mitt Romney who is unabashedly heavily invested in the office supply super-store “Staples” which by the way was open on Thanksgiving Day. Too bad those Staple employees couldn’t fully enjoy a day off from having to sell office supplies for Mitt and his other fabulous board of directors at Staples.
Except for Rhode Island, Maine and Massachusetts whose “Blue Laws” prohibit large supermarkets, big box stores and department stores from opening on Thanksgiving Day, hundreds of thousands of Americans are now being forced [because of work obligations] to miss Thanksgiving dinner with family and friends.
Until the people [consumers] find the will power to say, “Enough”, Thanksgiving Day will continue to be just another working holiday that emasculates countless American mothers and fathers as they miss out on priceless family memories in order to direct traffic and prevent fights in aisle 9 at Walmart, Sears and Macys; while “back at the ranch”, their company’s corporate directors and their families giddily pass the fried turkey, mash potatoes and cranberry sauce; as if not being paid a livable wage wasn’t insult enough.
My fellow Americans, 21st century American feudalism is already here and sadly too many of us have been over taken by endorphins that are being created, manufactured and packaged by Madison Avenue advertisement wizards who by-the-way have a Master’s Degree in persuading Americans to believe in the “Oakie Doke”.
The “Free Market” has now replaced and discarded priceless family gatherings for a promise of a 50% discount on sweaters and plastic toy helicopters that are made in Bangladesh by poor Bangladeshi workers who are paid less than $2 a day.
In many of these sweatshops poor workers are locked inside, well after production has stopped for the work day. These criminal acts of human bondage create an opportunity / environment for accidental fires that indiscriminately kills all who are trapped inside. This is the unseen face of misery and death that greedy profiteers who call their self “Venture Capitalists” wish to conceal from the world as they go about counting their profit and wishing “Good cheer to all” throughout the holiday season.
Because of Wall Street’s and Madison Avenue’s joint cerebral-imagery manipulation over our senses / emotions to crave the latest gadget, (Yes we’re close to living in The Matrix) we’ve forgotten so much that once made America special.
In short, we’ve forgotten how to communicate with each other without gadgets being involved. We’ve forgotten just how important attending festive family gatherings are to building a healthy and respectful society. Should we really be surprised that fist-fights over big screen televisions and Barbie dolls have become a common phenomenon at Walmart on Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday?
We and our children / grandchildren are evolving into the fictional children of Hamelin who foolishly followed the Pied Piper (the banks) via his magical flute (glitzy commercials) into the river and drowned.
Financial experts predict that over 140 million Americans will have shopped on Thanksgiving Day and over the Thanksgiving weekend. Of that 140 million Americans an estimated two-thirds will use their credit cards.
It’s a cycle of financial pain that is being spoon-fed to our children and their children as they go about their business of cutting short family get-togethers on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day in lieu of catching a sale at the mall.
For the few of us who still resist the urge to honor the shopping malls more than we honor priceless moments with our family and friends on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, a hearty “Happy Holidays”.
To the board of directors of the aforementioned billion dollar corporations who overwork and underpay their employees we simply say, “Enough of the greed”. Keep your stores closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Oh…and pay your employees a livable wage or American consumers who-by-the way ARE THE JOB CREATORS will shop at other stores who don’t buy their marked-up goods from China and Bangladesh and are still able to pay their employees a respectable wage for a hard day’s work .
To the banks, “It’s wrong to charge 19% interest on credit cards and it’s immoral to charge almost twice that rate on cash borrowed on plastic. You lure the consumer in as young adults with glitz and famous spokespeople and as a result the consumer stays indebted to you long after their death. It’s time to lower the interest rates on credit cards. You’ve made enough money for ten lifetimes over.
Try loving America as much as the men and women who serve our country 24/7 stateside and overseas, and thank goodness for people like Elizabeth Warren who steadily watches out for your scheming shenanigans.
Closing stores on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day so that most Americans can enjoy the blessings / good fortunes of family get-togethers is a no-brainer, it builds a humble and thankful society and besides Capitalism can afford to take a couple of days off from work. “Happy Holidays” and a “Happy New Year” to everyone…..even to the gazillionaires who have car elevators in their home.
As always the New Orleans Examiner is interested in what you think. Is Capitalistic greed responsible for brain-washing Americans to forget the true meaning of America’s most sacred holidays? Inquiring minds want to know. Sound off.
Until next time, Good day, God Bless and Good fishing.
