Manhattan magazine sent us a sneak preview of the November issue featuring Rob Lowe on the cover and snippets from his new interview. Rob Lowe talks to Manhattan magazine about his upcoming role as John F. Kennedy in “Killing Kennedy.” He also dishes about growing up with childhood friends Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn as well as living life in recovery.
Everyone is talking about Rob Lowe playing John J. Kennedy in the upcoming movie, “Killing Kennedy.” With regard to taking the role, he states, “Lately I’ve been taking parts I have no idea about – and that’s the rush. The challenge was apparent off the bat.”
During the interview, Rob discussed his childhood days in Malibu, including his friends Charlie Sheen and Sean Penn. He admitted they were not the popular guys or the beach boys and surfers. According to Rob, “We were these quirky kids with offbeat interests.” The Sheen family and the Lowe family were neighbors. Rob said Emilio was a track star. Chris made 8mm movies while Charlie debated everyone and everything. The Sheen house was like a second home to Rob.
Years ago, Rob Lowe was one of the original subjects of a sex tape scandal. Rob checked into rehab after his sex tape scandal and remained sober for two decades. He said his life choices are based on being in recovery. He learned to focus on what is real rather than imagined. Rob does not let his feelings drive the bus and strives to be courageous and honest. He puts his total effort into something without worrying about the result. He said because of his experiences, “My whole world view was infused.”
The high profile actor is known for many roles, including the one he played in “West Wing.” He discussed exiting the show after season 4 and said, “People very often mistake kindness for weakness, and when that happens with me, I remind them that I’m the guy who quit one of the most successful TV shows of all time, which makes follow-up my middle name.”
Rob also talked to Manhattan magazine about his role in HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra.” He stated it was a big swing, the kind that you either strike out or hit a home run. He has learned the best he can do is give his total effort, without denial and with total honesty. He concluded, “And if I do that, I don’t worry about what somebody else thinks.”
“Killing Kennedy” is TV movie starring Rob Lowe, Ginnifer Goodwin and Michelle Trachtenberg. The movie will premiere on the National Geographic Channel on Nov. 10, 2013, the 50th anniversary of the assassination of John F. Kennedy.
