There have been countless occurrences of horses getting loose or being let out of fences or getting away or free from their riders. This happened again, as was reported by the UK’s Salisbury Journal on Dec. 10. A riderless horse, standing in the road, was struck by a car on the roadway in Tidworth on Tuesday afternoon and died at the scene of the accident.
Police rushed to the A338 and Humber Lane junction, near Tedworth House, around 1:15 p.m.
Apparently the rider had been thrown from the horse, and the horse got free. It was then forcefully struck by a Toyota Prius and suffered serious injuries.
The road was closed to traffic due to the grave distress of the horse. The animal succumbed to its injuries shortly after 2:00 p.m.
The rider was quickly taken to Salisbury District Hospital with back pain.
Police was able to reopen the road at 2:30 p.m.
