Paul Walker was born in 1973 in Glendale, California. His mother Cheryl was a model and his father Paul Walker III was a sewer contractor and former champion boxer. Walker started modeling and acting at a young age and appeared in commercials as well as several television shows such as Who’sThe Boss,? Different Strokes, Charles in Charge and The Young and the Restless. Walker was best known for his portrayal of the character Brian O’ Conner in the Fast & Furious franchise. The 2001 film starring Vin Diesel, gave Walker his breakthrough role in his acting career.
On the afternoon of November 30, 2013, Walker died tragically in a car crash. Walker’s friend Roger Rodas, a professional race car driver and Walker’s financial adviser, was driving Walker’s red 2005 Porsche Carrera GT when he lost control and crashed into a pole and tree. The car burst into flames and Walker died upon impact according to reports. The two friends were at a charity event for Walker’s Charity Reach Out Worldwide for the victims of Typhoon Haiyan.
Even though he will always be remembered for his role in the Fast & Furious movies, Walker appeared in several other films including two gangster films. Running Scared, a 2006 gangster film didn’t make a big impact in the box office but has a cult following. The film written and directed by Wayne Kramer featured Paul Walker as a low level gangster named Joey Gazelle. Another familiar actor from the gangster genre, Chazz Palminteri portrays a cop in the violent crime thriller. Arthur Nascarella from The Sopranos portrays mob boss Frankie Perello. The plot has a lot of twists and turns and follows the story of a missing gun in the hands of the wrong person. Walker’s character has to get rid of a gun which was used in a drug deal gone bad with two police officers getting murdered. The gun gets stolen from Gazelle by a friend Oleg who uses the gun to kill his abusive stepfather Anzor Yugorsky, nephew of Russian mob boss, Ivan Yugorsky. Gazelle goes on a mission to find the missing gun and get it back into his hands. The film gets real dark into other elements and features some extremely violent scenes. Paul Walker was able to showcase his acting ability in the film and some fans say it was his best film.
In an interview on About.com, Running Scared director Wayne Kramer said that “Walker is that guy on some level” when comparing Walker with his character in the movie, Joey Gazelle. Kramer continued on to say that he “loved working with Walker because as a director he’s completely supportive of my vision of what the film is. And even better, he’s completely game for it.”
Another crime drama Walker starred in was the 2010 film Takers. Walker portrayed a bank robber in the film which also starred Matt Dillon, Chris Brown, Idris Elba, Hayden Christensen and Zoe Saldana. The 2001 film Joyride was another crime thriller starring Paul Walker.
