Forecast discussion: High pressure is moving into the Atlantic, as it moved offshore during Saturday. A low pressure center in Canada will bring the chance of some freezing rain during early Sunday morning. Despite having enough cold air in the atmosphere for snow, the entire atmosphere is not saturated, and most of the moisture is at a very low level. So, the precipitation will not have enough time to convert from a raindrop to a snowflake.
The wintry mix will change to plain rain by the middle of Sunday morning, as warmer temperatures arrive. All shower activity will end just past midnight. However, despite high pressure, there will be enough moisture to keep cloudy skies over us on Monday. During Monday afternoon, an area of low pressure will form off the east coast. The low will move towards New England on Tuesday. We will see rain showers by the early morning, and with easterly winds the chance of some coastal flooding is possible. The precipitation will end before the rush hour of the evening commute.
We will see mostly sunny skies during the early part of Wednesday, before a low pressure system passes to our north and west. We will see some passing showers during the evening, but ending early Thursday morning. Warmer air will be slowly moving back into New England on Wednesday, thanks to a passing warm front. High temperatures climb into the middle 40’s to the lower 50’s on Thursday.
A strong cold front awaits us for the following weekend. Rain ahead of the front will arrive by early Friday morning, before the front makes its way into the region on Saturday. Precipitation will end well before the cold front passes through, so we will not see any snow. However, some of the coldest air of the season is expected behind this front. We will begin to feel the full effects of the front by next Sunday.
