Ditch angora in 2014. Not only did PETA protest the usage of angora in several shops like H&M and Topshop, but ASOS, Gap, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger have also stopped using angora due to the inhumane torture of rabbits.
Embrace metallics in 2014 as the new denim. Metallics add just the right amount of luxe to any outfit without breaking the budget. Not just in jeans either, try a metallic dress or even metallic heels.
Ditch: Asymmetrical high low skirts
Is it a high low skirt or is the hem messed up? The asymmetrical high low skirt just has too much going on at the hem line making anyone look like a peacock before mating season.
On the Burberry SS/2014 runway it was all about pastels. Not only does it exude femininity, today’s pastels are far from being overly girly and child like. These pastels are grown up and can be paired up in matching shades for a monochromatic yet fun look.
Ditch: The crop top
Finally! Some one has come to their senses and realized that unless you have the body of Nicole Ritchie (ie: super skinny) a crop top doe not look good on you. If you’re curvy, a crop top makes you look scandalous. If you’re tiny a crop top makes you look like you’re drowning. Besides, how is having you’re belly button hanging out sexy? Paired with mom jeans, this is one trend that many are happy to see leave.
For a long time, pleats have gotten a bad rap for being too stiff and making you look either too big in the waist area or something middle aged men only wore. Not anymore. Today’s pleats are softer and not so constricted. Pleated skirts will be seen this year in every length possible.
Embrace: The new florals
This year floral takes a big leap away from chintzy. Look for scientific florals (a more anatomical approach to flowers) and 3D florals (embroidered, appliques etc). Not only is it perfect for the spring and summer but it breathes new life into floral prints.
Ditch: Drop Crotch Sweatpants
MC Hammer is calling and wants his pants back. No clue how these pants became fashionable again but thankfully its time to ditch them again. Heidi Klum on Project Runway professed her love for these as exercise wear but how? All I can imagine is massive amounts of chafing….
Whether you call them flatforms or creepers, they make people look like Frankenstein. Comfortable? Yes. Ugly? YES! They’re almost reminiscent of the stacked platform shoes worn in the 90s made infamous by Skechers.
Sheer is back in 2014 but have nipple exposed is so 2013. Embrace the sheer trend with a bra/bralet underneath and just generally all around proper unergarments. Afraid to go complete sheer? Layer it!
Ditch: Jean sweatpants
Just because Miley Cyrus wore it doesn’t mean its fashionable. I mean, she wore a nude latex bra and panties. Would you wear those too? You can’t have it both ways. Either you wear jeans or you wear sweats. You can’t have it both and look good in it.
Ditch: Micro short shorts
Hanging butt cheeks from the back of micro short shorts should only be reserved for hip hop video vixens and the stripper pole especially when worn in bright obnoxious colors.
Ditch: The Mustache
Ok it was great to embrace the mustache trend for Movember in honor of men diseases that attention needs to be bought to, but wearing mustaches year round for no apparent reason is a little over board. Yosemite Sam wants his mustache back…
Once again, the 90s came knocking on our doors in 2013 and it wasn’t right to open the door this time. Overalls are for little kids and farmers. There really is no way to dress up overalls to make them look like you didn’t just step off the farm.
Ponchos come and go every so many years. It’s hard to make them look good but occasionally they do have their moments. Unfortunately its 2014 and its time to ditch the poncho. Don’t throw it out though. It’ll be back in a few years.
Ditch: Stacked jewelry
Or as Manrepeller calls it an arm party. When does it end though? Should you continue to stack all the way up to your elbow or is just two or three enough? A throwback to the ’80s this time, stacked arm jewelry was all the rage in 2013. 2014 though looks like its heading back to a more refined day. One watch and maybe a couple of bracelets or bangles. And that’s it!
