Two major events are scheduled for Feb. 2, 2014—Super Bowl Sunday and Groundhog Day—and it’s anyone’s guess as to the results of either. Predictions have been made for both events, but no one has the final results—not yet anyway! According to a Friday, Jan. 31 report by Syracuse.com, Punxsutawney Phil has a terribly weak track record of predicting the weather on Groundhog Day, and whether spring will come early, or if we’ll have six more weeks of winter. They say, “Phil’s prognostication power is no better than a coin flip!”

“If you’re like most people, you watch the Superbowl for the ads. And like most people, you are most likely praying Punxsutawney Phil the groundhog doesn’t see his shadow this Sunday. This Sunday, two great American traditions merge: the Superbowl between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks and Groundhog Day pitting Punxsutawny Phil against his shadow.”

Punxsutawney Phil lives in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, and as of Friday, Jan. 31, the Groundhog Day weather forecast isn’t looking too good for Sunday, Feb. 2. Weather Underground.com reports it will be cloudy with a mixture of rain and snow in the morning. High 39F. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent. Since Punxsutawney Phil comes out of his hole in Pennsylvania at around 7:25 a.m., it’s highly unlikely that he’ll see his shadow on Feb. 2.
