If you’re thinking about starting a low fat diet, think again before reaching for that fat free salad dressing at the supermarket or salad bar.
According to nutritionist Jared Koch,
Most lowfat or fat-free foods will have sugar and chemicals to make up for the loss in taste, which renders them poor nutritional choices.
Woman’s Day wrote “our bodies need healthy fat in our food to keep our cell walls strong, absorb important vitamins and regulate our hormones,” and named salad dressing, peanut butter, milk, and ice cream among the foods where people should avoid fat-free options.
Because fat helps you feel full and when you eliminate it, you keep eating and adding extra sugar-filled calories to your diet.
What about that salad dressing? A study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found,
Your body needs fat to absorb certain nutrients in veggies… People who used fat-free dressings didn’t absorb any lycopene or beta-carotene, two health-boosting antioxidants.
Not only does fat-free salad dressing add unwanted sugar and unnatural chemicals to your food, it can actually affect your ability to absorb the nutrients you want in your healthy diet.
