Ever since Demi Lovato joined “The X Factor” U.S. judging panel in 2012, she has had her share of fans and critics about how she is doing on the show. But after “The X Factor” U.S. episode that aired on Nov. 13, 2013, Lovato has been getting a firestorm of criticism from numerous “X Factor” viewers, who have been slamming Lovato for everything from how she judges and mentors “X Factor” contestants to her recent unflattering blue hairstyle.
For example, on “The X Factor” U.S.’s official Facebook page, most of the recent comments about Lovato have been negative. Some of the viewers are demanding that she get fired from “The X Factor.”
It probably won’t be necessary to fire Lovato or any of the judges from the show, because ratings for “The X Factor” U.S. are on such a pathetic downward spiral that it’s highly unlikely that Fox will renew the show for a fourth season in 2014.
Fox won’t officially make an announcement about the fate of “The X Factor” U.S. until probably May 2014. And, for now, spokespeople for the show are saying the decision has not been made yet about whether or not Fox will renew “The X Factor” U.S.
However, it’s obvious that this show is on its last legs. Cancellation is inevitable.
Meanwhile, Lovato (who is 21) is once again talking to the media about her personal struggles with substance abuse, self-harming and eating disorders. Lovato has also gone public about being bipolar. (She famously checked into rehab in late 2010 for these issues.) Lovato is currently promoting her first book, “Staying Strong: 365 Days a Year,” which is a compilation of her thoughts and advice. (Lovato is signing copies of the book at Barnes & Noble at The Grove in Los Angeles at 5 p.m. PST on Nov. 23, 2013.)
Lovato told Entertainment Weekly in a November 2013 interview: “When I was in treatment, I honestly thought my career was over. But when I came out of treatment, I had more supportive fans than ever. There are lots of artists who aren’t honest — they put on a face. Nobody can relate to that face. Growing up, I needed someone in the public eye to look up to. At the time, it was starlets clubbing and getting really, really thin. That’s what I thought was cool and glamorous. But now I want to inspire that young girl who thinks she’s overweight, or too thin, or not pretty enough.”
Even though Lovato has been making these same confessions to the media ever since she got out of rehab in 2011, some media outlets are still treating it as breaking news.
As for how she is doing on “The X Factor” as a judge/mentor, it remains to be seen where her contestants will rank in the contest this year. She is mentoring the Girls category (female solo singers ages 12 to 24), whose remaining contestants are Khaya Cohen, Rion Paige and Ellona Santiago. (Lovato has already gone on record saying that Santiago is her favorite of these three singers.)
In 2012, Lovato’s highest-ranking “X Factor” contestant whom she mentored was the controversial CeCe Frey, who came in sixth place on the show. Lovato was the only judge on “The X Factor” U.S. in 2012 who didn’t have any contestants in her mentor group go on to sign a major record deal.
And considering that she is a judge/mentor on “The X Factor,” Lovato made this comment to Entertainment Weekly which indicates that she may not think that she’s really qualified for the job: “I’m in no position to give people advice on their careers.”
Here are viewer comments about Lovato:
From “The X Factor” U.S. Facebook page:
“Demi has become extremely mean. Not a nice person. Very hard to believe that the same thing is wrong with everyone but her own team. Not good qualities in a judge. Hope this is her last year.”
“Demi looks ridiculous tonight…what’s with her, she looks like she is ready for Halloween. I know it is 80s night but, sheesh.”
Wow….Demi is ridiculously just mean and spiteful. She worse than Simon. Ugly Spirit.sad…”
“She really is!! I can’t stand her.”
“PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE fire untalented Demi!!! Can’t stand her voice, have to mute when she is talking.”
“Demi Lovato looks absolutely ridiculous! Ewwwwwww!”
“OK? I think she looks fabulous in any kind of style she wears.”
“Oh what the heck is going on with Demi’s hair! Too much, girl!”
“Paulina is ruining the guys! Just my opinion. This show is going downhill like American Idol. I know most like Demi, but, I don’t. I think she’s a horrible coach as well. She will ruin the girls like she did last year. Just my opinion. They need 2 new judges at least.”
“Demi…..STFU!!! She has no idea how stupid she sounds with what comes out of her mouth sometimes. Paulina picking girl songs for the guys?? This show has become very disappointing. UGH”
“Demi is amazing!!!, she’s no rude, she doesn’t insulted anyone, just constructive CRITICISM.”
“Demi has been and will always be a hater. She was comparing this group with 5th Harmony and for those of us who watched last year, we saw she hated on that group as well….lmbo that is why her girls were sent home first last year. Grow up, Demi!!!”
“Just watched last night’s episode, I just can’t watch this show going forward, it is awful and majority of the talent is awful and the judges are awful including Simon…there is no way this show is back next season…mostly everyone was terrible and the rare ones that weren’t they were told they were bad and the bad ones were told they were good. Demi’s team stunk and then she’s criticizing the other performers. They are not doing that girl Rion with the disability any favors lying to her…her performance was terrible last night and so was Khaya’s. I only watch to catch Alex & Sierra, I think they’re great. And the ONLY one’s with the X Factor!! Just saying….just my opinion.”
“I agree about Demi, she needs to grow up. Bring Paula Abdul back please.”
“Last night was a disaster, the judges were acting immature especially Demi, she was so ignorent to everyone last night not sure what’s going on with her,and the song choices were really bad for the contestants, the only one that sang good last night was Jeff Gutt,it was a complete disaster, not sure if you judges are hearing the same as us at home, hope tonigh is better.”
“Look at Demi Lovato’s hair, you want me to take advice from her, hell to the no?!”
“Simon… you need to start finding judges that aren’t intimidated when a contestant sings better than them. Demi is REALLY bad about it and then she gives a bad review of the contestant. How she can whine that she was bullied growing up yet that’s exactly what she’s doing to undeserving contestants.”
From “The X Factor” U.S. YouTube channel:
“DEMI what’s the matter with you? I loooove Demi and her music but I’m starting to feel like all her anti-bullying is a bit ironic. I’m all for being 100% honest but she says it with no compassion whatsoever, neither in her words nor her facial expression.”
“I think its so crazy how much Demi trashes people on this show when she was some big advocate for bullying. Shes fake!”
“Don’t be stupid.. Demi is there because she’s a judge and the fact that she was bullied do not mean she’s fake just because of her opinion THEY PAY HER FOR THAT.”
“DEMI IS SO FREAKING WRONG AND MEAN TO EVERYONE WHOSE NOT HERS.”
“Shut up DEMI! LOVE YOU BUT YOU CAN BE STUPID SOMETIMES.”
“Demi should just sing because I cant stand her annoying voice when she talks and whoever your stylist is, FIRE them NOW.”
“She has a beautiful voice when she talks and sings.”
“Okay demi i love you and all, but girl what is up with your appearance. lmao you like a clown sorry.”
“To be honest, i like demi but she’s been really annoying this whole week.”
“Demi always comes off as extremely jealous and its weird to say that because I love her.. when did her speaking voice become so annoying? I was thinking in the beginning how she was walking great in those heels and than Demi said she looked uncomfortable.. her criticism is always off.”
“Don’t get me wrong i love demi but she just pisses me off when she acts all immature especially towards Simon. Its not funny, its disrespectful. She is 21 for goodness sake so act like your age. Its annoying to watch when she knocks his microphone or tells him to shut up. just rude.”
