On Friday, according to CBSsportsline.com, the Florida State Seminoles were named a 28 point favorite over the rival Florida Gators. At the beginning of the year, this game was shaping up to be a top 10 matchup, but injuries and terrible play have derailed the Gators’ season. This game is not expected to be close, but you can never tell what will happen with a rivalry game.
The Seminoles owe Florida payback from last year’s lost, so don’t expect Florida State to take Florida lightly. In fact, Florida State can’t afford to overlook the Gators at all. Although Florida lost to Georgia Southern last week, they’ll want nothing more than to ruin the BCS title hopes of Florida State.
So far, the sexual assault allegations haven’t affected Jameis Winston or the offense, but as the case lingers, could the drawn out process finally be getting to Winston and his teammates.
Florida State vs. Florida
When: Saturday, November 30, 12:00 p.m.
Where: Ben Hill Griffin Stadium
The offense might not be the best with numbers, but when you watch the Seminoles play, they definitely have been the most consistent offense this season. Jameis Winston is having a stellar season and would be the runaway Heisman leader if not for off the field accusations. Winston has a plethora of receivers and a tremendous running game, behind a mammoth offensive line. The Seminoles will try to put this game away in the first quarter.
Defensively, Florida State has been flying all over the field for much of the season. They have pros at every level of the defense, and they are all adept at making plays. It’s going to be tough for Florida to sustain long scoring drives, so the Seminoles have to prevent any big plays. In similar fashion to the offense, the defense can take the heart of Florida early in the game.
The Gators have one of the worst offenses in the country. The offense is so bad their top 10 defense couldn’t prevent a six game losing streak. Their best case for an upset is to run the ball, and try to throw deep. Any type of combo routes could be a turnover waiting to happen.
Defensively, Florida did not give up a passing yard to Georgia Southern and they still gave up 26 points in a loss. Florida should be a good test for Jameis Winston on Saturday. The Gators have the second ranked pass defense, but they must be willing to compete for four quarters.
It just doesn’t look like Florida will be able to score enough to hang in with Florida State. One way they could manufacture points is by creating turnovers. Look for Florida State to go for the knockout punch early in this game. If it’s business as usual, they’ll be preparing for an ACC title with the BCS championship on the line.
