Turmoil has crept into the Florida State football program with the news about Jameis Winston this week. Even with the sexual assault allegations and pending investigation, on Friday it was certain that Winston will be under center for the Seminoles. CBSsportsline.com still has Florida State listed as a 37.5 point favorite.
Syracuse has slowly but surely gotten better throughout the season. They currently sit at (5-4) in their first ACC season. They have to win two out of the next three games to secure a winning season. In three losses, Syracuse has started slowly. The results have been blowouts. It’s apparent that the Orange need to keep the game close in the first quarter because any type of comeback would seem highly unlikely.
Syracuse vs. Florida State
When: Saturday, November 16 3:30 p.m.
Where: Bobby Bowden Field at Doak Campbell Stadium
The Syracuse offense just does not score enough to beat Florida State. They have to capitalize off of turnovers early and defensive mistakes. Where Syracuse can show progress is in the running game. They just might have a chance to have a ground FSU’s offense to a halt. When they take shots in the passing game, they might have to take deep shots.
Defensively, Syracuse has been good for a lot of the season. Their first quarter performance is key to any type of upset on Saturday. Florida State comes out fast and on both sides of the ball and they’ll put up 30 points in a flash. We’ll see how well the Orange tackle at the point of attack. That’s where the game will be won.
The offense has been rolling along all season. They’ve scored 40 plus in every game and it’s been a beautiful system to watch. It will be interesting to see how distracted Florida State is as a whole on Saturday. That’s why they should come out with a strong running game to settle everybody down in the early going. We’ll see how they attack the Syracuse defense.
This is another chance for the defense to rise up and shut down another opponent. The expectations are for Florida State to be more focused on the task at hand. All they have to do is play the way they are capable of playing. Their biggest key for Saturday is to control the line of scrimmage. Syracuse will try to run the ball and keep the game close. The Seminoles are first in pass defense and they are adept at taking the ball away.
Nobody knows for sure how the Florida State Seminoles will come out and play in the first half. They could be lackadaisical or they could come out with the same force as they have most of the season. Still, this is the moment where the team has to come together even more. Syracuse will make some plays, but not nearly enough to upset the focused Seminoles.
