This Saturday, November 16, 2013, Collector’s Paradise in Pasadena is hosting the LA release signing for “Unity” #1 with a cover that is exclusive to their store. This cover by Philip Tan spotlights the main attraction of the “Unity” series X-O Manowar as he is surrounded by the Unity army of Valiant heroes that opposes him. The series is written by Matt Kindt with artwork by Doug Braithwaite and tells the story of the Valiant Universe coming together to oppose the barbarian in the X-O Manowar armor, Aric the Visigoth.
When [Collector’s Paradise] found out that we would have the opportunity to have our own cover, I wanted to do something really special, and went to an Amazing friend of the store, Philip Tan, one of the best artists, and an amazing Cover Artist, to do our cover. Philip’s first sketch blew me away, the full black/white piece knocked my socks off, and once I saw the finished color cover, I could do nothing but stare. – Edward Greenberg, Owner
In addition to the being able to get the Tan cover attendees this weekend will have the opportunity to get their book signed by Tan as well as getting a free quick sketch on the “Unity” #1 Blank Cover. Blank covers have become all the rage with comic readers as they are able to get a cover personalized just for them.
In addition to the signing, exclusive cover, and free quick sketches, Collector’s Paradise will be offering an exclusive print of the cover when you purchase any of the “Unity” #1 covers. This print is the same Tan art from the cover but without the logos that obscure the artwork.
Also this is your opportunity to view two original pieces of art by Tan on display at the store. The original black and white artwork for the “Unity” #1 cover will be on hand along with Tan’s color art from an unpublished cover to “X-O Manowar” #5. These pieces are not for sale but the chance to view these pieces of original art is worth the trip alone.
“Unity” #1 is Valiant Comics’ biggest release to date and is available at comic stores today, November 13. The premiere issue has a plethora of variant covers by some of the top artists in comics including Doug Braithwaite, Bryan Hitch, J.G. Jones, Travel Foreman, Paolo Rivera, Clayton Crain, and Neal Adams. These covers will have a varying degree of availability at local comic retailers. But the only place you will be able to get the cover by Tan is at Collector’s Paradise in Pasadena at the “Unity” #1 LA Release Signing from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the Saturday.
You can RSVP to the event and get more information through Collector’s Paradise’s Facebook page.
