Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star confirmed an earlier injury report that Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe sat out the second half of Thursday’s practice with concussion symptoms.
Because there will be little to no chance of Bowe passing the NFL-mandated neurological tests for concussions before Sunday’s game against the San Diego Chargers, it is likely Bowe will sit the game out.
The Chiefs are locked into the #5 seed in the playoffs no matter what happens in the game, so coach Andy Reid has already indicated that he will rest several starters to give them extra time off before the playoffs start next weekend (1/4 – 1/5).
The other Chiefs player that missed practice is linebacker Tamba Hali, with a sore knee. Hali would seem to be another prime candidate to sit the game out.
Several sources outside the organization speculate that running back Jamaal Charles has carried the ball for the last time in the regular season and won’t play, while quarterback Alex Smith may be limited to one half of play, if that much.
On the positive side, left tackle Brandon Albert and linebacker Justin Houston returned from long layoffs due to their injuries and hope to play Sunday.
