Being friends take time. It’s about learning who each of you are. It’s about being a little disappointed in the other but knowing at the same time when it’s the right time to hold on and when to let go.
You have to know what’s important; and what’s not. Which arguments really don’t mean that much, and which do. You also need to know when you need to teach a lesson. Nothing negative but walk them through it so they know what’s the protocol. You allow them to do the same. You believe the friendship is worth it because you see value in them and you’re not looking for it with self. Basically, you know that they are here to teach you something.
You have to know when it’s okay to go through something with them. Mainly because you believe that they want you to because they’re thinking the same thing as you.
It’s hard to be friends with people who aren’t willing to grow when you are. That’s self sabotage, when you try and hang in there when it’s not right. It doesn’t mean that you negate them as a person but that you’re moving in a direction they aren’t willing to go. So, you change your course.
Jesus was the only one who knew of a betrayal prior to it happening and hung in there because he had a purpose. If this person has a purpose other than teaching you something that you knew you needed to learn or you were okay with sacrificing yourself then do what you must.
No one really specifically teaches you how to be a good friend. There are some people who are amazing at it because they were born to be that way. The rest of us have to work at it if we want to make it work but I guess that’s with any relationship isn’t it.
