The BIG idea in collectivist circles worldwide now is BIG: Basic Income Guarantee.
Governments can eliminate poverty, a Slate article explains, by giving every citizen between childhood and retirement age a check every month.
In the US this means 179 million people receiving $11,945 a year, totaling $2.14 trillion annually.
BIG would replace “SNAP, TANF, housing vouchers, the Earned Income tax credit” and an undefined “many others,” but we would still have Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, ad infinitum.
“Everyone is free to do what they like” with their government handouts, advocates say.
Like blowing it all at once on booze, drugs, lottery tickets and then demanding more?
Real world governments don’t replace one tax or one benefit with another; they keep adding.
Real world governments don’t reduce their dominating, taxing, spending, or counterfeit money-inflating.
Eventually everyone will be taxed into poverty status to keep the new “entitlement” coming until there’s no middleclass and a true two-class society exists, the 99% shiftless sheep mired in government-created poverty and the 1% ruling class of uber-politicians, corporatists and banksters living in the greatest opulence the world has ever seen.
But it’s not only the world’s Entitlement-Takers who believe that this fantasy can work.
According to USBIG “Many libertarians” are attracted to the scheme. They cite Matt Zwolinski at Libertarism.org and Matthew Feeney at Reason magazine.
(Libertariasim.org/Cato Institute and Reason have both been moving from libertarianism to spineless conservatism for years.)
Real libertarianism is based on the Zero Aggression Principle, that no one may initiate force, intimidation or fraud against another.
Therefore American libertarians have no problem with a guaranteed income if such a program is conducted 100% voluntarily among consenting adults.
BIG is just another anti-reality something-from-nothing fantasy that attempts to defy the laws of physics, economics, and human nature. Psychologically it’s called groupthink. Morally it’s called theft. Culturally it’s called parasitism.
No matter how BIG is presented it still keeps the government power, wealth and ego sociopaths in control, and they can and will change the rules any way they want to benefit themselves.
Yes, BIG may be better than the thoroughly corrupted welfare states of the world. But burglary is also better than armed robbery. Does that mean libertarians should advocate burglary?
So-called “libertarians” should be ashamed, both for signing on to government coercion and for calling themselves libertarians.
