Joey Coulter, driver of Kyle Busch Motorsports’ flagship No. 18 Toyota Tundra in the Camping World Truck Series in 2013, came into the season with high hopes, but ended the season outside the top 10 after 22 tough races.
Coulter, who came to KBM from the Richard Childress Racing stables, put just five top 10 finishes in the board, with his strongest performances being a runner-up finish at Kansas in April and back-to-back fourth-place finishes at Eldora and Pocono, where Coulter picked up the first win of his career in 2012.
The season started off with a 22nd-place finish at Daytona and picked up a bit with a 15th-place finish at Martinsville and a 13th-place finish at Rockingham before his second-place run at Kansas. A 32nd-place finish at Charlotte in May and a 25th-place finish at Texas sandwiched an eighth-place run at Dover. Coulter’s season picked up a bit with six-straight top 16 runs, including Eldora and Pocono, before regressing with a 26th-place finish at the road course at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The rest of the season saw a top finish of 12th (Martinsville and Texas) in the final eight races. Coulter finished 15th in points on the season.
“Well, the highs were good and the lows were lows,” said Coulter on the KBM website. “I can’t thank the guys enough for fighting hard all year. We’ve had a lot of bad luck that they’ve pushed through. Like tonight, we got turned around on a green-white-checkered and even with a couple laps to go, they got it back rolling and we finished the race. My guys fought so hard all night, it just wasn’t our year. I can’t thank Kyle Busch Motorsports, Toyota, Darrell Gwynn Foundation, Tempest, GunBroker.com and FOX Sports 1 enough, we had a lot of fun and we couldn’t have done it without their support.”
